Character story scenes for Adenydd

In 2025, I created a series of illustrations for Adenydd, an organisation dedicated to supporting children affected by developmental trauma and neurodiversity. The series explores how children experience and make sense of the world around them, particularly through their senses. Each story focuses on a child’s sensory world: what feels overwhelming, what brings comfort, and how they find calm in their own way.The illustrations feature within Adenydd's Sensory Regulation Course in the form of printed booklets and online graphics for both in person and remote workshops.

Hi! I'm Berry, a UK-based illustrator. I've always loved to draw, and colour and shape have been at the heart of everything I make.I work predominantly with characters, building worlds around them through colour, pattern, and the small details that give a scene personality. My work has taken me from character design and app illustration to storytelling and editorial projects for charities and organisations.
My vision is to continue helping clients build distinctive personalities and tell their stories through illustration - this is the direction I'm consciously growing my practice towards.
Away from the drawing board, I find inspiration in nature, people, books, and a general curiosity for the world around me - all of which find their way into my work in one way or another.

Character illustrations for the Helen Bamber Foundation

This year I partnered with the Helen Bamber Foundation, a human rights charity dedicated to supporting people seeking asylum in the UK. I created a series of character-based illustrations to compassionately portray the stories of survivors of trafficking and torture - work that required a great deal of thoughtfulness at every stage, from composition and storytelling to incorporating the Foundation's brand colours throughout. The illustrations are being used across their editorial materials, including their annual report and social media.

Each of these three character illustrations is based on a real survivor's story. Rather than depicting their trauma, I chose to portray each person at a point of hope and progress - a man with his books and rucksack, having earned a scholarship to study for a Master's degree; a young girl, finally safe and in education; and a woman in her nurse's uniform, working in the profession she loves. Each detail was chosen deliberately to honour their resilience.

This scene depicts a therapy session between a client, therapist, and interpreter, a setup central to much of HBF's work with survivors. The brief was to portray the client with a sense of agency and strength.

A family reuniting at an airport after years apart - a moment that for many of HBF's clients represents the result of years of fighting to be safe and together.

Illustrations for Yubl

Yubl was a UK-based social messaging app that let users layer text, stickers, video, and photos onto a shared visual "canvas," blending social media with real-time messaging. I was commissioned to design two separate pieces of work for the app: a character illustrated across a range of poses and contexts, and a standalone accessory pack - hats, beards, and similar items - designed as layered stickers users could place over their own photos.A promotional video for the app (viewable on YouTube) shows some of these illustrations being used in practice - printed and layered over a presenter on camera, alongside a small number of illustrations by other artists.

Boat Logo Design

Logo design for a self-employed boat maintenance business. The client wanted their boat represented within the image. Working from a photo of the boat, I created a simplified line illustration within a circular format, keeping the boat's colours with subtle line work to keep the design clean and versatile.

KIMS Hospital Installation

Commission for Kent Institute of Medicine, completed shortly after graduating. The brief was to create a woodland scene in calming colours, to be printed onto glass panels forming a large corner installation in the waiting room. I designed a geometric interpretation of the scene - stylised trees with sharp, angular lines in muted oranges, purples and greens - with silhouetted animals subtly hidden within the colours of the trees. Dragonflies, birds and squirrels are deliberately discreet, giving patients something to discover and engage with.

Queen - Digital Print

A self-initiated illustration created around the time of the Platinum Jubilee. I love experimenting with characters and drawing new ones, so this was a fun personal project - a playful, stylised full-body portrait of the Queen. Created digitally and shared on social media.

Cath Kidston Stanley Print

Competition entry brief to illustrate Stanley, Cath Kidston's well-known Lakeland terrier and brand mascot. I drew Stanley surrounded by some of Cath Kidston's iconic bags, incorporating the brand's logo within the scene. Created using a combination of pen and digital.
